St. Louis Art Place Initiative Recognized as 2026 Most Innovative Company
2026 has already been a landmark year for the St. Louis Art Place Initiative, demonstrating how arts-based community development can create lasting neighborhood impact.
In March, they received national recognition when it was named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2026, highlghting the organization's pioneering approach to strengthening neighborhoods through artist homeownership, creative placemaking, and community-driven investment.
Working in partnership with Smith NMTC Associates, Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis, SLDC and the City of St. Louis' Home STL Program, They celebrated another significant milestone in April with the sale of its third home to Caitlin Isgriggs, a ceramic artist known for creating functional works while expanding into sculptural art. Together, this cross-sector collaboration is creating pathways to homeownership.
STLAPI is also expanding its impact through a new partnership with Dutchtown South Community Corporation (DSCC). The ART CO (Arts-based Regeneration Through Community Ownership) is a year-long initiative supporting implementation of the Gravois-Jefferson Historic Neighborhoods Plan. Through ART CO, STLAPI and DSCC will lead a series of projects designed to expand community ownership, strengthen cultural assets, and demonstrate how arts-based investment can support neighborhood revitalization in Gravois Park and Dutchtown.
We are proud of their growing role in advancing equitable development strategies that connect artists and residents with community wealth, stability, and creative vitality!
