Opportunity Zone Summit for the Vandeventer & Fountain Park Neighborhoods

Tour two opportunity zones north of Delmar, in the Vandeventer and Fountain Park neighborhoods. Learn the significance of these neighborhoods to the overall redevelopment of St. Louis.

Hear from HUD’s Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Policy Development as he describes the use of Opportunity Zones in other cities and states to rebuild marginal communities. The City of St. Louis’ Opportunity Zone Project Manager will describe local and state incentives. A Partner in RubinBrown’s Real Estate Services and Tax Services Group will educate us on the benefits of investing in Opportunity Zones.

The bus will depart promptly at 9:15 am and return at 10:15 am. If you will not join the bus tour, please email arnold.judith@yahoo.com, indicating you will only attend the meeting portion of the summit. There is limited capacity on the bus.

Trailnet Moonlight Ramble Ride

The tradition continues with the 55th Annual Moonlight Ramble® so grab your bicycle and join us under the light of the moon for a bike ride adventure! The annual Moonlight Ramble® is the “World’s Original Nighttime Bike Ride” held in St. Louis, Missouri held at night near the full moon in August. Attracting thousands of riders each year, the event includes a leisurely bike ride through the streets of St. Louis, a Festival area, live entertainment, a commemorative event shirt along with with a post-ride party including snacks and drinks. The longest running endurance event in St. Louis has attracted riders for 5 decades. Some riders came as children and are now bringing their own children to the event. People come from all over the country to ride.

Residents of the North Central Special Business District invite you to come help green up the Hodiamont tracks. The Hodiamont tracks cover a 3.5 mile corridor from Grand Center on the east, north along Spring Street, then west along the former streetcar right-of-way just north of Enright Avenue. Volunteers should meet at Lane Tabernacle CME Church.

This August 9th, HomeGrown STL and Forward Through Ferguson are honoring the life of Michael Brown, Jr. through hosting a morning Welcome at the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center from 8:30 AM to 11 AM, in support of the Chosen for Change Foundation’s schedule of events. The Welcome includes complimentary coffee, light breakfast, and an informal meet and greet with Brandon Anderson, who lost his partner to police violence in 2007 and has since launched Raheem, the independent service for reporting police misconduct in the United States. HomeGrown STL is supporting the expansion of Raheem to the St. Louis region over the coming weeks and we invite you to learn about the service from Mr. Anderson.

Enjoy a day of family-friendly fun in the Grand Center Arts District with programs at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries, and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.
