2026 Community Development Week

CBN was honored to commemorate Community Development Week (April 6-10) by highlighting several Community Development Corporations and their work. Established in 1986, National Community Development Week serves as a platform to spotlight the impactful work being undertaken through initiatives such as the Home Investment Partnership (HOME) and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). These highlights play a crucial role in raising awareness among Congressional leaders regarding the commendable efforts of grassroots organizations. This occasion provided CBN with an opportunity to bring awareness to the crucial and community changing work of CDCs within the St. Louis region.

Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH)

Is modernizing the historic Clinton-Peabody Redevelopment to secure deep and long-term affordability for the community. This redevelopment utilizes layered financing, including $500K HOME funds, $3M from the National Housing Trust Fund, and $2.5M in tax credits (LIHTC & State).

St. Joseph Housing Initiative (SJHI)

Expands its community development mission by supporting families on the path of homeownership. To date, the organization has sold 17 rehabilitated homes to first-time buyers, with 5 additional properties currently undergoing renovation.

The Housing Partnership

Is assisting the revitalization of the St. Louis community by developing 60+ housing units, 40+ rentals, and helping 20+ families achieve homeownership. To achieve this achievement, they have leveraged over $15M in public and private funding.

Beyond Housing and the Housing Authority of St. Louis County

Invested over $175M into the 24:1 Community, $35.1M in commercial development, 36 new housing developments, and 619 affordable rental homes managed. Key projects include Family Homes, Stratford Commons, and the Pagedale development. Pagedale leveraged $12M to create 36 mixed-income units.

Lutheran Development Group and Rise

The Marquette Homes Project is leveraging $26.3M to develop 60 affordable housing units. Within the past year LDG has been working across 21 buildings in neighborhoods like Dutchtown and Gravois Park, and Bevo neighborhoods.

DeSales Community Development

The Virginia Plaza project is going to be a transformative 85,852-square foot development featuring 78 mixed-income housing units, commercial space, and live/work opportunities. It is supported by layered investments, including $2.5M in LIHTC, $2.7M in HOME funds, and $500K from CDA.

Northside Community Housing, Inc. and Rise

The Ville is leveraging public and private financing to support over 5,000 housing opportunities and 300 housing units developed. Another key development is the Dick Gregory Place, which created 40 affordable housing units through the rehabilitation of 36 existing homes and the construction of four new ones.

North Newstead Association

Increased the housing supply by creating and managing 138 affordable units ranging from one to four bedroom units.

Old North Restoration Group and Rise

The $35.5M Crown Square redevelopment, transforming a once-vacant historic corridor, established 80 mixed-income housing units and 33,000 square feet of commercial space. This project utilized HOME, CDBG, and tax credits to fund this extensive project.

This week has been an exceptional opportunity to showcase the remarkable programs that have been developed. We extend our sincere gratitude to all of our dedicated organizations and numerous other Community Development Corporations (CDCs) who prioritize investing in and nurturing St. Louis communities.
