Congratulations to Beyond Housing on 50 years of transformative community development!
Beyond Housing is a nationally recognized community development organization dedicated to strengthening families and transforming our under-resourced communities to create a stronger, more prosperous St. Louis, once and for all. Their work in North St. Louis County is one of the most comprehensive community development efforts in the United States and the largest in the St. Louis region.
Beginning as a housing organization in 1975, their history has been one of continual learning and evolution in our mission to create greater results and lasting change.
Their comprehensive, holistic work spans several key impact areas that are essential for thriving families and communities, from housing to education, health, employment, economic development, municipal government, and more.
The 24:1 Community
The 24:1 Community is a community comprised of multiple municipalities within the Normandy schools footprint in North St. Louis County. Though the community contains a variety of household incomes and successful neighborhoods, the area has had the highest concentration of poverty in the Missouri side of the St. Louis region for several decades.
In 2010, Beyond Housing worked with community leaders and residents to create the 24:1 Community, uniting the multiple municipalities under a common vision. In partnership with the community, we launched a comprehensive initiative to
address the significant challenges and begin reversing the decades-long trajectory of decline.
Since 2010, we have raised and invested more than $175 million in the community. We have also invested heavily in creating the infrastructure of staff, programs, partners, and trusted relationships for fulfilling our comprehensive model and creating real change.
Our innovative model provides a real solution that can also be replicated in other parts of the region.
