The mission of Spanish Lake Community Development Corporation (SL-CDC) is to make the Spanish Lake area of North St. Louis County a desirable, attractive, and quality place to live for existing and future residents.

SL-CDC was founded in 2013 by community members, with support from St. Louis County, Christian Hospital, the Spanish Lake Community Association, and the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. The organization was formed to enhance the quality of life and create socially and economically healthy living environments in the Spanish Lake area by promoting and engaging in neighborhood improvement projects and other related activities, including the provision of decent housing that is affordable to low-and moderate-income residents.

SL-CDC uses a four-pronged vision to work toward neighborhood improvement and community revitalization:

  • Improving the mix of affordable, market-rate, rental, and owner-occupied housing.
  • Advocating for economic development strategies that inspire investment and advance business and employment opportunities for all people in Spanish Lake.
  • Aligning strategies, expectations, and activities of all stakeholders (e.g., residents, government, businesses, nonprofits, property owners, and institutional partners) toward the common goal of enhancing the community through all SL-CDC activities and programs.
  • Developing long-term and sustainable partnerships between the organization and North County institutions and neighborhood organizations to ensure an equitable quality of life in Spanish Lake.
