Position Description: Grant Writing Consultant

The Near North Cluster (an affiliate of the Community Builder’s Network) is a partnership comprised of non-profit 501(c) (3) community development corporations including; Old North St. Louis Restoration Group, Inc., Northside Community Housing, Inc. and Community Renewal and Development, Inc. Neighborhoods served by the partnership include Old North St. Louis, Greater Ville, Ville, St. Louis Place, Carr Square and Jeff-Vander-Lou. The Near North Cluster has recently adopted a comprehensive community development plan and is currently desirous of engaging a grant writer to assist with plan implementation.

Responsibilities include

  • Developing and writing grant proposal to foundation and other grant making organization; persuasively communicating the Near North Cluster’s mission and programs to potential funders;
  • Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budget and presentations;
  • Establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers;
  • Maintaining calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines and reports;
  • Conducting prospect research;
  • Prioritizing projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals;
  • Providing writing support for major donor and individual contribution letters and acknowledgements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to construct funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner. Excellent writing, analytical and research skills are required. Candidates must be self-motivated; details oriented, highly organized and have an extensive experience using online databases and other sources to located biographical, financial and philanthropic information. A high level of computer literacy is required along with a fairly extensive knowledge of the realm of community development. Candidates must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form. A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants and at least 2-4 years of experience in working with small to mid-level non profit agencies is also preferred.

Compensation

Anticipated compensation will be $20.00-$30.00 per hour based on relevant experience. Maximum number of hours to be billed by grant writing consultant will be negotiated before contract is executed.
