Founded in 1975, Beyond Housing works to help entire communities become better places to live. The organization has developed a broad range of supports and services to help low-income families achieve their long-term goals.

Beyond Housing exists because home matters. The organization began with actual houses and housing preservation, focusing on quality and stability to give people a place to start. But Beyond Housing believes there is more to a home than the house: home is about the life that happens in and around the house as well as the life that fuels and draws out the best of the people within it. In alignment with these values, Beyond Housing is a community development organization that works in defined geographies like the Normandy School District in order to focus resources where they can have the greatest impact.

Within its service area, Beyond Housing focuses on all elements that make a thriving community: housing, education, health, job readiness and access, and economic development. Beyond Housing owns 475 service-enriched single family and senior affordable rental housing units in St. Louis County and works in partnership with the 24:1 Community Land Trust to develop additional homeownership opportunities. Beyond Housing has also worked to bring community amenities to its service area—including a grocery store, cinema, and financial advising center—and offers foreclosure and homeownership counseling, match-savings programs, and an after-school program.

Beyond Housing works in collaboration with partners to increase educational, economic, and health opportunities for the 24:1 community—the 24 municipalities within the geographic boundaries of the Normandy School District—with one vision: strong communities, engaged families, and successful children.
